Hi, thanks for the detailed reply! Yeah I wasn't sure if everything is interconnected or just the trails game - thanks for clarifying that. I can understand not wanting to if you thought you would have to go back 30+ years and/or play through every Dragon Slayer and Legend of Heroes games, but with only the Trails being interconnected, and them being shorter on average than the Cold Steel entries, I would very much recommend experiencing the games in some way. While you'd probably still enjoy CS III and IV without it, even if you read up on the other games there would still be some scenes you would find confusing, and many scenes would lose their impact. You said you were about to finish CS II? Would I be correct in assuming that you are at the Finale/Final Chapter then? If so, all I will say is that after completing the games, you'll already start to see some of what I mean. If you found CS I and II heavy to digest, CS III and IV will almost certainly be very overwhelming. This allows the beginning of an Arc to serve as an entry point for newcomers.įor the latter games, though, they're going to have reoccurring plot points and characters from previous games you won't know anything about. The beginning of each Arc (CS I and II, in the Erebonian Arc's case) are relatively more stand alone and focus on the world-building of the nation and the introduction to the cast and to what the main story of the Arc is about. The story of Trails is divided into "Arcs" with each Arc taking place in a different country/nation and starring a new main cast. The story that started in the Sky Trilogy is the same one that continues in Crossbell and will be continued in CS III and IV.

The way the series is structured is that all of Trails tells one giant story spanning all their games. It's spoiler free and meant to explain the series for any newcomers: Īlso, SandehBoi's link goes over the basic timeline as well as a more indepth (and spoiler filled) timeline that has a bit more details. I made a spoiler free guide to the whole series of Trails here that also gives a bit of history as to how Trails and Legend of Heroes came to be, that also covers play orders and when each game takes place. If you are unable to play through games for some reason, I would advise watching a playthrough or, if nothing else, maybe reading Cake_Attack's Let's Play he did in text form (though I think it only covers a few of the games). Even reading a plot synopsis probably wouldn't quite convey it. No brief timeline or history will convey all that is needed to know to really grasp the whole story of this series. They are extremely important to CS III and IV and the future of the series. If you don't mind me asking, is there a reason you don't seem to want to play any of the past entries? I would highly highly urge you to reconsider. The Trails series/saga started with Trails in the Sky in 2004 and has continued until now and is up to 9 games and counting! We will have a few more to go, too, until the series is complete. Trails of Cold Steel is as much a "Trails" game as Trails in the Sky is. The Legend of Heroes Series is not all interconnected (as far as we know, but that's another can of worms), only the games with "Trails" in their title are interconnected. Hello! Welcome to the series! I think you misunderstand a few things, so I'd like to clear up the confusion if you don't mind.
